Grand Canyon - South Rim

Monstrous but ethereal... Calm but intimidating... Barren but inspiring... That's how it felt about this unique geological erosion at Grand Canyon... Justice to its name after all, GRAND!

I had heard about this 446 km long, up to 29 km wide, and up to 1.8 km deep Canyon. I had watched the documentary about the same in NatGeo channel. But, to see it in real and stand in front of was nothing short of ‘unreal’.

I am not a professional photographer, neither do I own any professional gear. Nevertheless, I captured some of the Grand Views to the best of my ability. Here are some of the sample clicks.

Not So Long Ago in Mumbai - Trip Down Memory Lane Part 01

It is the little things in life that count!

Most of the times that line is perceived as Cliché. Nevertheless, I am a fan of it. Not because it sounds nice, but because I feel that all the time.

For instance, I had to move away from my base work-location Mumbai. From my career point-of-view, it was nice to experience back there. However, it is not the memory of nice projects or assignments that makes me feel beatific. Of course, they were important. But, looking back at those three and a half years, it’s the memory of small little things that happened makes me feel lighthearted!

I would not like to sound too philosophical. But, I am kind of filled with the sense of gratitude! For the reason that, I have been fortunate enough to have met some ‘kool’ friends! It’s them who, knowingly or unknowingly, showed me the value of the ‘small little things matter’ idea!

Here, I am sharing some of such memories which keep floating across my mind every now and then. But, I am refraining from naming anyone! After all, what’s in a name?

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" ― William Shakespeare

Anyways, let us come back to ‘flashback’ stories! I really enjoy remembering the numerous bike rides in and around Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The company of my brother who is not my brother added real value to it. Two bikes. Two friends. Zero drama, as simple as that!

Nice times were not limited to weekends. In fact, it was weekdays that I enjoyed a lot, thanks to those interesting characters at the office!

To have genuine friends in the workplace is kind of necessity. And to have a mentor at the office is great. But, to have a mentor who treats you just as his good friend is nothing short of awesome!! I don’t think I am ever going to forget all his ‘free advises’ (don’t look at me, he used to self-proclaim it so!). I cannot repay him, however, I am determined to help someone else when it is my turn! Passing on good things, that’s a kind of payback too, don’t you think so?

One of the basic necessities of living beings is Food! How can I not think about that constant source of food who had her desk adjacent to mine? She was generous to offer orange-flavored wafers, dry fruits, ‘chivda’, and what not! However, nothing could beat that ‘sabudana vada’ and ‘bread pakora’!

Nevertheless, it’s not at all about the eatables, but the interesting attitude of her that made me respect her. Oh, beauty is just a bonus - good for her!!

And then, away from my cubicle, I had this philosopher and a dialogue king. I am not sure if he is a fan of Bollywood star Govinda, but people nick-named him so! I, at times, used to feel he spoke my mind. Now, that is called some frequency-match!

Talking about frequency match, what do you call a person with whom you had the most number of fights and arguments? An enemy, eh? But in my case, she has been my best friend! In one instance, we are having fun with photo-session during lunchtime, and a fight in another – apparently for no reason! Why? Don’t know, but that used to be our case. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, we valued and respected each other! Sometimes, she used to annoy me with her ‘you need to improve’ suggestions. But, I knew she had only been helping me to be a better person. Well, she deserved a cookie for that selflessness!

I always appreciated her patience in dealing with my irritating reactions to most of the things! Overall, it was an entertainment package of movies, weekend outings, shopping, Ganapati decoration, bhindi bhaji for lunch, never-ending arguments to choose a simple dish from the decade-old lunch menu at a canteen, and yes, the fights! That’s not it, I have one more reason to thank her! She introduced me to her doctor-friend!

Well, not exactly a doctor. A doctor-turned-engineer! An interesting character, with her own stream of thoughts (hey, don’t read it ‘weird’, that’s NOT what I mean there!). That calm and soft-spoken demeanor of her made me listen to her words with full attention. After all, she is the lot more experienced than me in dealing with real-life scenarios!

As Rocky said, “The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows”! You come across all kind of friends. On a serious note, she was the one who supported and helped me when some hypocrites used to troll my peace of mind. Cannot thank her enough for that! Later on, I helped myself to develop an apathetic behavior towards such people and regain my ‘happy times’.

I cannot forget the most hilarious of the lunch-time ‘sessions’ with her! As a typical married woman, with her real-life examples, dislodged my plans of thinking about marriage after 32! She convinced me that, finding a girl and getting married at the certain age is critical! My mother would be proud of her, huh.

I am already tired of typing, but I haven’t covered even half of what I thought of sharing. I would rather stop here, than making it an essay. Not because this blog has many readers. But because I do not want to scare away the handful readers that I have!

Anyways, the things I wanted to share but could not write here could be summarized as: The excitement of occasionally getting to meet and talk to my favorite girl, the gossips with breakfast-group, fun of quarterly team lunch, the mostly-expletive and boys-only banter with gym buddies (of course, when no girls are around!), colorful Fridays at campus (If you know what I mean), the sugar cane juice and that stranger girl, friendship of training batch-mate, Not so uncommon ‘sweets at my desk ##’ messages, Congratulation-pings from friends on release of value innovation tools (those pings weighed more than tools itself!), conversation in native language with “anna”s in cafeteria, Waterfall rappelling, photo sessions, ethnic days. Uff! Even summary looks like an article!

Being said that, I am NOT at all missing those good times and that awesome campus. Just because, I have developed a sense of gratitude that I was fortunate enough to be in the middle of such an exciting group of people. All I now do about that is to recollect, remember and relive those moments in my mind!

After all, they say, you can be as happy as you choose to be. These memories certainly help me to go for the right choice always!

After Telcos plea against Whatsapp, it is Motor Manufacturers’ and India Post’s turn to cry

Mumbai, Aug 8: As the news of Telcos reaching out to TRAI to regulate Whatsapp and others is still hot and fresh, another set of surprise news has emerged.

The request of Telcos to provide “Level playing field” in telecom sector has clearly inspired the Motor manufacturing sector.

In an overnight turn of events, a committee of motor vehicle manufacturers has been formed named it as AIMVMWA (All India Motor Vehicle Manufactures Welfare Association). The AIMVMWA reportedly approached Ministry of Railways to regulate the usage of Mumbai Local Train by citizens.

A member of AIMVMWA who wished to remain anonymous was quoted saying “Mumbai Suburban Railway carries more than 7.5 million commuters daily. The passengers get to travel by purchasing cheap tickets in it. That has been encouraging these millions of citizens to travel by train. This clearly makes the prospect of owing a four wheeler less attractive. And that is really hurting our revenues”.

The committee has urged the government to provide a “level playing field” by regulating the number of passengers per day to certain limit. “One more way in which government could help the revenue of AIMVMWA is by increasing the ticket fares by about 25 times and make it a ‘premium class only’. This could certainly encourage most of the commuters to go for the alternative of owning a car!” said R S Rao, a member of the newly found association.

“The AIMVMWA certainly has the right to voice their dissatisfaction. More the people buy cars more they need fuel. That is certainly good for business too” quipped Shashank Gupta, Assistant General Manager of a major fuel distribution company.

“We are happy that our initiative has inspired other downtrodden organization to wake up. The concept of providing the citizens with affordable amenities is really absurd. In a democratic and developing country like India, quality of service does not matter as long as you make profit by charging exuberant price. We extend our full support to AIMVMWA in its fight against common man”, explained the President of AIMVMWA.

Further, an unconfirmed source of news stated that, these two recent developments have also woken up India Post. It is rumored that India Post is preparing a petition against likes of Gmail and Yahoo for eating up the mailing business space. It is also likely to file a multibillion rupees law suit against Emailing service providers in the country.

Meet the all-new iBike from Applle

California, July 26: The rumors are flying high that, consumer electronics giant Applle Inc. has decided to add new vertical dimension to their business.

The smart-device company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity wing has taken an initiative to partner with a major Mountain Bike manufacturing firm to produce Applle branded bikes. The all new breakthrough product is likely to be launched under the proprietary name iBike.

The product is in the mid-stage of development and expected to roll out in USA market early in second Quarter of 2015. An associate close to the iBike team, on condition of anonymity, said “Biking is one of the easiest ways to keep oneself fit and healthy. Encouraging more and more people to biking, by providing them with state-of-the-art vehicle, and there by having a fit and lively society is the main motive behind this initiative. People value Applle products, and there is no doubt that iBike campaign would be successful in the market. Also, promoting a healthier lifestyle brings in a sense of satisfaction and makes us proud to be called as socially responsible organization”. The person, however, evaded the questions regarding the product specification, keeping the tradition of Applle not disclosing the details before launch.

However, our reporters’ persistent attempt to churn out more details about the product has been partially successful. An insider from iBike development team, code named as Virtuo, on condition of anonymity provided us with the specification of product under construction. The all-new 22” sized iBike will be available in two colors – Pearl White and Faded Grey.

The bike is powered by 8-speed Shimano gear system. However, in the days of 36-speed geared bikes, it seems below-par promise to have just 8-speed for $899 price tag. But that does not seem to deter Applle fans “The numbers in specification sheet does not really matter. The most important thing is the level of performance and smoothness of ride you can get from the available system”, beamed Jesse, a die-hard Applle user.

The bikes plastic and rubber parts, including seat cover, break-levers, break-cables, and handle grip will be shining in white. However, the aluminum metallic frame will contain the Applle emblem matching with either of the color options chosen.

The iBike also features an innovative idea of having a music player device in it. A music codec system inspired by the much successful iPaid series, resides inside the seat. The back-side of the seat contains a special micro-USB dock for charging and loading the songs. Also, an audio output jack is provided adjacent to this slot. However, both of the slots are compatible only with Applle devices and require you to have iTunas installed in your iMak or Mach Pro to recharge the device or transfer media content.

Nevertheless, what brings the sense of security in the iBike is its out-of-the-box “Pedal Design”. The new pedal design, also known as iPedal, contains three circular groves. The wheels and handle could be unlocked only by placing your feet, wearing a compatible iShoe shipped with the iBike. “The owner of iBike owns the bike! They consider security of their bike as an important feature. And nobody would like to allow any other user wearing non-iShoe to use the bike. I believe this is a great step by Applle to strengthen the relationship with the long-term loyal fans”, Said Raghu Shanmugan, a product and market analyst from My Market Today group.

Overall, this product looks to be promising for the future of Applle.

Nevertheless, Goolge fans disagree with the concept, dubbing the initiative as ‘an attempt to lock in more users to their eco-system’.

“The bike looks great, beautiful and stunning,” Said, N Krishna, a Goolge fan, looking at the leaked pictures of iBike “but, this is a huge disappointment for the price tag of $899. Having trouble connecting with non-iBike users is one thing. But, this does not even provide any customization feature. For instance, you cannot change its wheels and break-shoes”. He desperately tried to highlight the fact that, had it been a Goolge product, it would have even allowed you to change its stock wheels with more powerful ones of Chevrolet Camero!

John, a long term Noakia user, likes photography on-the-go. “I would have loved to have a 41 Mega Pixel camera attached to the headlight of the bike. Since it lacks that very feature, this product is not for me”.

Meanwhile, Samsong Group, one of the Applle rivals, made an announcement about their new fitness product Mountain Bike, named as Gal-XC Bike 2. The product will be launched in September 2014 for retail price of $399. The feature rich bike boasts 46-speed gear system, 12mega pixel on-board camera, interchangeable seat with plastic frames, and a music system with 3.5 mm jack and dual-band loud speaker. This all new flagship Bike will be available in three colors – Pearl White, Faded Grey and Misty Blue.

An attempt to reach the other two players in the same market Microhard Inc and Shony Corp remained unsuccessful. Some reports claimed them to be engaged in fixing the existing issues in their own smart-device products and rarely find any time to catch up with competitors.

Listening Skill

It was somewhere around 11 O'clock  on a Saturday night. The only source of light that lit the hall was fifteen-inch screen of my laptop.

It was then I felt like something was moving at the far end of the room.

It took a moment for me to realize that, that was my mother who was waving at me to get my attention!

What the heck!

“Mom, you scared me!” clicking the pause button of YouTube I continued “I thought you fell asleep a few hours ago!”

“Do you have any idea how many times I called you, son?” clearly ignoring my comments “What are you concentrating so hard at, anyway?” she was sarcastic even in that half-asleep mood.

Then, considering the gravity of the situation, I removed my earphones and answered her

“It is a video-training, mom, on Advanced Listening Skill!”

She said nothing else as she closed the door of the room behind her!

Sun of a Beach, Mountain and more!

I am not a big fan of gold… But certainly, I feel like I have an obsession for shades of golden color.

Perhaps, that is the reason I get tempted to capture sunset and sunrise, every time I see it!

Also, the fact that, I have an Obsessive Compulsion Disorder of clicking pictures against the light, is not helping me much either!

Well, I am bit embarrassed, if those lines sounded like coming from a professional photographer. Because, I know, obviously, I do not possess those skills! But the point here is, you know, one should write some tricky-catchy-cheesy lines before posting some pictures!

Anyways, let me come to the point… Here are some of the pictures I clicked with the theme of sunset or sunrise.

With Pictures, From Disneyland!

Hey… Hold on!

Don’t close the tab!

For once, this blog post does not contain any potentially harmful philosophy or jaw-dropping (yeah, I mean to say yawning) story!

I am dedicating this page to post a few clicks from recent visit to Disneyland. Nevertheless, viewer discretion is advised as it may contain pictures taken from unusual angles or framing.

Just a few words though… Why am I publishing this post just with photos? There are two reasons!

First, I am desperate to post something and get attention of handful readers of this blog.
Second, well… please refer to the first one!

Alright, let’s cut the crap and get back to the ‘agenda’. Here we go…

This one clicked at the entrance of Disneyland. Hey, No, I was not trying to be creative with the angle here. I was just trying to avoid some clueless human-heads popping up at the bottom of frame, trust me!

Quite colorful, isn't it? It has to be, because that is one of the selling points in this business model, I feel.

I like the color of the sky, do you?

They definitely have an eye for even minute details like this! Artistic angle even for direction-board!

Hmmm... Here, the sun may set, but the fun never will!

What, did you just ask me where are Mickey and Friends? Yeah, they were there in the parade. But I really was concentrating on the event rather than clicking pictures. I missed out on that part, did not miss the fun though.

Just before winding up, I would like to mention here that, all the pictures were taken with my two-year old Sony Xperia Sola. Oh boy, I am proud of this device... I really am!

To: My Love

Well, let me start with this, it is 4th April...! Happy first anniversary, darling!

I really wonder how time can fly that fast. I am finding it difficult to see that it has been a year since you came in to my life - a wonderful and ‘power packed’ year!

I never used to believe in ‘love at first’. But, I must confess, you broke that strong and naïve belief of me.

Yes, I admit, I had considered other options too, before accepting the fact that I was destined to be blessed with you. But whenever I had to do that, I had been comparing ‘you’ with others all the time. Finally, the thought of considering the alternatives succumbed to the inexplicable attraction that you had fixed in my mind!

I still remember those difficult days of January 2013. They posed me plenty of legal challenges, to the extent that, I had almost given up the hope of bringing you home!

But then, they say, difficult times never last longer. So, as if to certify that statement, I experienced one of the exciting and joyous moments of my life! On 4th April 2013, I was relieved to hear that, I could take you with me!

After spending more than hundred frustrating and suffocating days, finally, I saw the light at the end of tunnel!

Ah, talking about the light! I had heard people saying that the ‘light’ was never felt like coming from 35/35W at 12 Volts! But I did not care dear! Not because, I was not interested in night-riding, but because you had something more meaningful than that to offer. The trust and reliability of Yamaha! The look and feel of FZ-S!

© Naveen Bhat

After all, you are the famed Yamaha FZS; rightly known as Lord of the Streets. Hey what? Lord…? Well, never mind… For me you are the Queen!

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I really love that ‘humming sound’ of engine when I find you clocking above 65kmph.

Tell me! How do you manage to keep yourself vibration free for most part of the ride?

© Naveen Bhat

Trust me dear, it really does feel like sailing on smooth waters, when we hit the express-way’s straight and neat stretches! I could not have asked for more from your capacity to deliver 14PS at 7500RPM, for 153cc displacement!

Yes, you are expensive and never really appreciate saving some penny on fuel. It’s clear by the way you take me just 38-45 kilometers per liter. Being said that… you are not destined to live economical, but to leave every economical counterpart behind when we hit the tarmac!

Hats off to your Air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC engine which makes it worth of a ride – So smooth and plain!

Now, after riding for a year with you, I completely trust those words - Heads  don’t just turn, they bow!

© Naveen Bhat

But don’t get me wrong here, dear! I, just for the sake of flattering you, would not like to say that you are the ‘numero uno’. No you may not, to be honest! Because people say there are your counterparts; when compared with you – some are more powerful, a few are bit more attractive, or a notch above in mileage!

Nevertheless, for me, all that does not matter! For me, you are the most powerful! For me, you look the most attractive! For me, simply put, you are best in the world! After all, I liked and chose you for what you are!

© Naveen Bhat

Well, if I choose to continue to write more about you, I just could go on and on till you get bored!

So, let me be modest by allowing me to stop here!

Just one thought though, if anyone asks me 'what is it like to have you in my life?' I could sum it up in just two words – Eternal Bliss!

Thanks for being what you are to me! Touchwood! :-P
